Akin to the “Tourism Information Center” planners have included a “Public Health and Early Childhood Services Information Center” immediately accessible as visitor’s enter the library.   The library board and “Friends of the Library” insure a community volunteer(s) versed in area health care and child care services is assigned the task of coordinating the information center.  Two very active members of the original Building Trust Fund Committee are health care/social service professionals and a another serves on the Healthy Henry County Communities (HHCC) Board of Directors.  HHCC is a charitable nonprofit coalition serving life initiatives including public health and early childhood services.

These volunteers insure a close working relationship with the Henry County Health Center (hospital), HHCC, and other entities such as Salem Elementary School and the Iowa State University Extension Office to promote public health, wellness and education activities.  As an example, HHCC was awarded a sizeable grant to address childhood obesity.  The library can be a focal point for disseminating information that derives from administration of this grant.
